Snow White Camellias

Chapter 11 was pretty eventful to say the least. That Mrs. Dubose lady was an old witch, can you believe that she actually sat on her porch and if Scout said "Hi" she would chew her out for that? Jem got really angry at her and started ripping up her camellias and pulling at Scout's hair in a rage. If Atticus can stand being called a "nigger lover" then he must have the patience of a Buddhist monk.

However, I couldn't stay mad at Mrs. Dubose when Scout described her pitiful condition. She was basically confined to her creepy old house whether she liked it or not. I don't know why she was so vicious towards everyone, maybe she was getting revenge on them for the sheer fact that they can go as they please and she can't. Reading this chapter reminded me of an old quote that my 7th grade English teacher told me, "If someone is being bad, then they need love the most." In a way this is true, if you love your friends and despise your enemies, then where is the challenge in making new relationships?
