I DO?!?!?!

~Through the last scene for tonight's reading, it finally introduces the beloved Juliet. The young girl, not even fourteen yet, is alreading having to deal with the thought of arranged marriage being force down her throat. A young girl, who seems to have no spine whatsoever is dealing with fire in this scene. Arranged marriage, now there is something that just maybe could turn someone's life "just a little" different.
~Being a young girl, Juliet was raised and taught to listen and obey her parents. To disobey them would only bring shame to her family's name, and the same goes to the other females of that time. A young women could be married off as early as the age of 12! Juliet on the other hand has the ability and the power to "choose" the husband of her choice; as it seems. Really as though in the story that may come across, Juliet seriously doesn't have much of a choice at all. She is a only child of a powerful family, beautiful, loyal, and comes across as a bright person, suitors are going to be hammering at her door. Yet her father is very protective of his daughter, and Juliet's mother already seems to be making "plans." Juliet is a checker piece, as I may call her, she is only a play in the game of power and gain. Juliet may be pretty, bright, and witty, but that truly doesn't matter; it is what comes with the "package." My theory for Paris is the gain that he will receive for the hand of the young Juliet is what he is really after, not her, but truly her father's riches. Love for marriage didn't exist back then, in some rare cases it did, but this arrange marriage, I think not.
~Tell me if I am wrong thinking this, and please tell me if I am. I Paris a "gold digger," or a man who will take care of Juliet? Is Romeo even in a stable state of mind to sweep Juliet off of her feet? The question that lingers sill in my mind, is Juliet a strong women of her time, or a maid waiting to receive an order to be told what to do next? So complex, and still so simple really. . .
