Poor Tom!

Wow, right now I am feeling really sorry for Tom . I agree with what everyone else is saying: that Tom is innocent and that Mr. Ewell beat Mayella. Tom's testimony just sounded so much more believable than Mayella's and Mr. Ewell's. It seemed like they really had to think about some of their answers, like maybe they had made up the story.
I would definately want Atticus to be my lawyer. Mr. Gilmer was so mean! but does anyone know why it was a mistake for Tom to say "I felt sorry for her"?
Also, did anyone else think something was strange when Tom said, "She says she never kissed a grown man before ... she says what her pappa do to her don't count." (pg. 194) That made me think that maybe she is sexually abused by her father. What do you guys think?
