One Rough Day
WHAT? Are you kidding me, T.J sentenced to the chain gang. Man this just ain't right
Well, not a fairytale ending as one may call it. Not even close to a decently happy ending.
All in all Papa, or David, set out to go help T.J. and try to sort things out with the lynch mob. He told the family, that being Mama, Big Ma, Stacey, Cassie, blah blah blah... the whole family. He grabbed the shotgun that sat above their bed and stuffed a case of shotgun shells into his pocket. During all of this Mama is trying to persuade him not to do it, she get's upset because she thinks he's going to die if he takes him gun with him, it's a mess. In the end Papa and Mr. Morrison disappear into the darkness of the night to go and find T.J. and the lynch mob. As he leaves Mama tells him Papa not to use the gun, and his reply,........ "I'll do what I need to." And That's exactly what he did.
The cotton fields catch fire and one man claims it's because of the lightning, because there is a lightning storm going on during the middle of all of this. Well that one man was wrong. Like Papa said when he was leaving,"He'd do what he had to..." to keep T.J. safe, Papa set the cotton fields on fire to distract the lynch mob.
Well this worked, but only for so long. Everyone pitched in to help put out the fire, (this lasting all through the night) and everyone was safe. As soon as the fire was no more, T.J. was arrested and sent to jail. Papa went home and informed most of the family on what had happened. However, if jail wasn't enough, Papa also told Cassie, Stacey, Mama, and Big Ma that T.J. was sent to the chain gang. Every bit of which was true.
Not only did T.J. not rob the pistol from the store, he was wrongfully accused of it, and sent to jail to later be sent to the chain gang. Now I don't know about you, but that sounds like one rough day. Poor kid, hung out with whites and was black in this time period, something was bound gonna go wrong sonner or later. All in all the whole families upset, and teary eyed. T.J. wasn't a member of the Logan family, but was a big part of their lives. Whether you realize it, or not.
Give me your opinions on the whole ordeal, was it completely right, wrong the opposite, let me know. This book was one to remember, sad to say it ended like this.
Till tomorrow,
Peace
