Racism in School

well, my picture didnt work so click on this link to see it. http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/I?fsaall:17:./temp/~ammem_MjAI::displayType=1:m856sd=fsa:m856sf=8b23709:@@@
I don't know, but seeing this photo I found it appropriate for our book. I think it is pretty neat how we can look at the old school houses as they were back in "Scout" times. From the looks of the picture, it looks pretty cramped to me. Force two to a desk and in a room with all grades; I would say that school back then was a little different. Even in the 1940's, when this picture was taken, comparing white and black education differed. Blacks where given the last handouts, the pick-over stuff. Well, I know everyone is thinking it, but I just have to say it, "That is SO not fair!" Personally, I think in a strange, but cruel way African Americans were taught to be better people. They were taught to deal with what you have, be thankful for what you got, and use your mind and nurture it. White students were given many benefits, and I'm not calling them all brats, but many viewed this racism as a source of power to bully the "underclassman". Well, that power in my mind just cripples them. Power is a thirst that can never be fully quenched. Racism is the power that was used then and now; and most often it can be found in our school systems today. Education and racism, both a type of power, and both can be used for good or bad. I guess it just depends on the person, black or white.
