WOW! What an ending!

Finally, I worked up the discipline to get on and quit procrastinating! That's how I always get on a long, lazy weekend... Well, I actually finished the book a long time ago since I could barely put it down during the last chapters of the assault/murder mystery! I was so glad that Boo came back and became the big hero, he really cared about those kids, maybe even loved them. I also thought that it was a good touch that Scout wanted to keep Boo's action a secret between the family. If the truth got out among the public, who knows what they would do to Boo on account of his reputation?

Here's why I think Harper Lee describes this as a "simple love story." It's not really a love story involving a couple, instead it shows that people can love each other despite old prejudices. For example, I got the feeling that Dill, Scout, and Jem really cared about Tom Robinson during the trial even though they never really met him or knew him well. They didn't want to see him get in trouble for what he didn't do. The same goes for Boo Radley, who looked out for the kids even though they were obscure to him.

In all, after finishing the book, I found some pretty good insight into humanity and tolerance in general. It taught me of the undeserved bitterness that whites gave the blacks back in the Depression, I'm glad that racism isn't an issue anymore. Still, there are groups like the White Supremists and the Black Panthers who think that they're better than any other race, but they're wrong. Everyone is equal to God. By the way, if you don't mind heavy reading ( try 1050 pages!!) along with some sophisticated vocab, then I recommend Don Quixote by Cervantes ( last name) the humor is pretty modern, so it's worth a glance!
