Fearlessness, Dauntlessness, Intrepidity, Spirit.
Yesterday I dared to struggle. Today I dare to win.-Bernadette Devlin
The definition of courage is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, ect., without fear. I think that you can fear what you are facing, it's courage that gets you through it. We have read a lot about very courageous people so far this year. Odysseus was very brave man, he was determined to get home to his wife and had to face many challenges on the way. The characters in To Kill a Mockingbird also showed a lot of courage; Scout while saving Atticus at the jail, Atticus by defending Tom Robinson in court, Boo in saving Scout and Jem, and many other instances. Miss Jane Pittman displayed courage her entire life. She fearlessly left her plantation as a young girl and took care of a child that she took as her own. She always stood up for what she believed, and it's impossible to question her bravery. The last people we learned about were the people from the Radio Diaries. These people showed courage whether it was standing up for their people or telling their story.
The courage of adolescents is tested everyday. Kids are pressured to fit in and do what everyone else is doing, right or wrong. Real courage shows when the kids don't care to turn down drugs or choose not to skip class. They don't fear that they will be made fun of, they do what they know is right. Courage is a trait that makes people admirable, and it would be nice for everyone to have.
