Reading Ivanhoe for Punishment!

Some of you may have noticed that when Jem read to Mrs. Dubose, it was the novel Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott. If you click on the title, it will take you to an etext of the book, and you can read an excerpt. Give it a try to appreciate this passage of the story. Scout narrates that when Jem gets tired reading and comes to a word he doesn't know, he just skips it, but Mrs. Dubose catches it and corrects him. Can you imagine her knowing a book like that so well that she could correct Jem, even in her state of physical withdrawal from her addiction?
